  The Lacey Fire District 3 operates under the legislative authority of three fire commissioners, each elected to six-year overlapping terms. The Board of Fire Commissioners is responsible for establishing key policy, setting levies, developing and adopting the annual budget, reviewing and approving contracts, and appointing a fire chief.

The Board meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Station 31. The meetings are open to the public. Changes to the meeting schedule and Meeting Agenda will be posted at Headquarters Station. Meeting Minutes will be made available by request to 491-2410.

 
  Skip Houser served on the Thurston County Fire District 3 Civil Service Board prior to his election as a commissioner in 1985.

Skip is a graduate of Western Washington University, and has a law degree from the University of Puget Sound and a Masters in Public Administration from The Evergreen State College. He is currently in private practice in Olympia as a principal with the firm of Valz, Houser, Kovut & Barnes P.S.

In addition to his service on the Board of Fire Commissioners, Skip has served as an administrator with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, the Department of Corrections and the Governor's Office of Financial Management, and was the deputy director of the Department of Trade and Economic Development.

 
  Gene Dobry was elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners in November 2009.

Gene is a former military officer (Lt. Colonel) from the US Air Force. He retired from active duty in 2003 after completing a total of 31 years of military service. Gene is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and has a Masters Degree in Soil Science and Biometeorology from Utah State University. He is currently employed with USDA Rural Development as a Community Programs loan specialist.

Gene is a transplant resident to the State of Washington, moving to the area as a result of a military transfer to Ft. Lewis in 1998. After retiring from the Air Force, he decided to make the Lacey community his permanent home. Gene is active at the Grace Community Covenant Church, the Hawks Prairie Rotary, the Military Officers Association of America (Olympia chapter) and also participates in the Adopt-A-Roadway clean-up program. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Rachel, for over 36 years. They have three adult sons and five grandchildren.

 
  John Christiansen was first elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners in November 2007.

John retired from the Department of Defense in 2003 after a total of 28 years of combined federal service. His last duty assignment was as the assistant manager of the Fort Lewis Golf Course.

John proudly served as a combat medic with the 1st Infantry Division and served in Vietnam in 1967-68. He is a Tet Offensive Survivor and a life member of the VFW and The Society of the Big Red One.

John comes from a firefighter family. His father and two uncles were career Seattle firefighters, and his son Alex is a Lacey Fire District lieutenant.

John has been a lifelong volunteer in youth sports, sports officiating, scouting and fund raising. He has supported LFD programs, Fire & Ice Basketball Game, the Community Service Committee, Fill the Boot and Adopt-A-Family. John has been married for 36 years to Marion, a retired army nurse. His daughter Amy has been a volunteer for the LFD and now lives with her husband in Germantown, Maryland. She is a Web news editor for National Public Radio.
