Our firefighters are
cross-trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). So when a fire truck and
firefighters arrive at the scene of an accident or fire, they are able to
provide vital rescue and medical services - quickly and cost effectively.
When your medical incident is not
life-threatening, our EMTs will provide medical aid and a recom- mended
course of action. If you need to be evaluated by a physician at the hospital,
they will prepare you for transport, which is handled by an ambulance provider
such as Olympic Ambulance. If your medical condition is
life-threatening our response will also include a team of Paramedics.
Advanced life support (ALS) is
medical care provided by paramedics trained to assess a patient's condition,
administer drugs, defibrillate and provide advanced airway management prior to
transportation to the hospital. Our Medic 6 ALS paramedic unit, housed at Lacey
Fire District Station #34, provides emergency medical care for critically sick
and/or injured people who require a more advanced level of medical care. Medic
6 is offered in partnership with Thurston County Medic One and operates on a
12-hour basis daily during peak demand. Most emergency situations - heart
attacks, strokes, and serious car accidents - are likely to occur between 8
a.m. and 8 p.m., and Medic 6 is available to respond quickly with critical care
services.
Thurston County Medic One agency operates
countywide, providing six ALS vehicles staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a
week, that generally operate in assigned geographic locations throughout the
county. When the medic unit assigned to a particular area is not available, the
next closest unit is dispatched. |
