Thurston County Residential Burning Permits

Residential burning is the outdoor burning of leaves, clippings, and other yard and gardening natural refuse. For areas within Fire District 3 and outside the City of Lacey and the Olympia Urban Growth Area, residential outdoor burning is allowed by permit from October 16-July 14. Permits expire July 14, and a new permit is required for the next burning season. Permits are free and include information and requirements for safe and approved burning.
  • To protect life, property, and air quality, the permit does have limitations. Read it carefully!
  • At times of high fire danger, permits will not be issued.
  • Individuals who violate the burn ban will be fined.
  • It is illegal to burn garbage at any time.
Within Lacey Fire District 3, Residential Outdoor Burning Permits are available at our headquarters station located at 1231 Franz St SE during normal business hours.

Feel free to contact Lacey Fire District 3 if you have any questions about outdoor burning or to obtain a permit.
